HONOR Powers E-Vehicle Using HONOR MagicBook Series Ahead of Global Debut

HONOR MagicBook 14 laptop batteries power an electronic quadbike in show stopping stunt

[24 February 2020] – Global smartphone brand HONOR officially unveiled the HONOR MagicBook Series to global customers at a live-streaming launch event today. To showcase the laptop’s superior battery life, which lasts up to 10 hours on a single charge, HONOR built a charging system capable of powering a large electric quadbike, using just five HONOR MagicBook 14 devices. During a 60-minute charge, the laptops transferred enough energy (approximately 180Wh) to allow the e-vehicle to drive 5 km in distance.

According to a recent Canalys report, laptop shipments are expected to reach 87 million across Europe by 2023. The colossal growth in demand for smart devices, including laptops, indicates a shift towards consumers embracing a more “always-on” digital lifestyle. Designed for on-the-go professionals who need a powerful laptop to take them from day to night, the HONOR MagicBook Series packs an ultra-powerful battery inside its slim and lightweight body. HONOR carefully positioned the components of the laptop enabling it to carry a massive 56Wh high energy density battery capable of supporting up to 10-hours of uninterrupted use, whether you are browsing the web, watching high definition films, gaming or working remotely. To explore what a battery with such power can achieve, HONOR challenged a design engineering consultancy to see what else the HONOR MagicBook Series was capable of charging.

“Through rounds of testing, we discovered that with the battery power of five laptops, it’s possible to charge something much larger, including electric vehicles. A charging circuit was created to connect the laptops together and raise the output voltage to 70 vdc. This charger is connected to the quadbike to charge its own battery, which is then used to power the vehicle once charging is complete,” said Dr James Brighton, Design Engineer. “It’s exciting to see how far battery technology has come and incredible to think that such a battery can be packed into the laptop which is very slim.”

The HONOR MagicBook Series comprises of the HONOR MagicBook 14 and HONOR Magicbook 15. The 14-inch HONOR MagicBook 14 weighs just 1.38kg1 and is 15.9mm2 thick, while 15.6-inch HONOR MagicBook 15 weighs just 1.53kg. In addition to its 10-hour battery life, the HONOR MagicBook Series boasts a FullView display with an 84% and 87% screen-to-body ratio respectively, a powerful core for ultra-fast performance and enhanced graphics, as well as smart interconnectivity with HONOR smartphones, perfect for flexible workers who want to complete tasks while on the go. Available in Space Gray and Mystic Silver, the HONOR MagicBook Series will go on sale in selected markets including the UK, Germany, France, Czech Republic and more from end March 2020 with an MSRP of €599.
