我的荣耀 开启荣耀之旅
Hello everyone
First of all, sorry for the late postings, but family illness has meant I haven't had the time to write this!
So, with apoloigies, please find my usage experience with the Honor 9X.
Let's go through these features and say how they affactedmy usage day to day:
1 & 2: Now, I'm going to leave you without pictures today, because my main review will cover the camera system proper.
However, the main camera is exactly what you'd expect from Honor at this point. Like the Honor View 20 and Honor 20, the main 48MP camera works just great and produces images with great detail and contrast, and the AI features work just as well despite being a £250 phone instead of a £399 (Honor 20) or £500 (View 20) phone.
The selfie camera is pretty good too, but I need to play with this more and haven't really used it much. The pop up is great though, and a step up from the Hole-Punch camera idea.
3: The display. Now, this is where the budget shows a bit. The screen is sharp, clear, the lack of a hole punch or notch is *amazing*. Just don't put it next to a View 20, because the phone is half the price for a reason! The screen lacks a little punch compared to what is Honors best 2018 phone display, but for day to day use is great. Playing Netflix on the device with no notch or anything in the way is magnificent. And best still, for movies shot in widescreen, you can zoom in, filling the screen completely to eliminate letterboxing and losing none of the picture!
The display is also mostly very responsive, with no issue with multi-touch and the gestures for the UI work if anything better than the View 20. The size of the screen means that while is is defintely not for one hand use, makes the system clear and easy to use, especially with Font and UI scaling available.
The screen also comes with Vivid and standard display modes, and you can set the colour temperature to your liking.
4: The 4000 mAh battery combined with the efficiency of the Kirin 710 means that like the 8X before it, the thing easily lasts more than 24 hours with medium to heavy use and far longer when on standby with less use. Like most Honor devices, having such a big battery gives you peace of mind when you're using it that it wont suddenly deplete the battery. The charger is a 10w charger, so no Super Charge, but it charges pretty quickly. I shall test this objectively with a 0-70% and 0-100% test to come.
5: The device came with 128GB of storage, so I have had no need to add to this as yet, but will test the storage facilities later. The Onboard storage is as quick as the View 20, so again, no complaints here.
6: The X design looks great, just not on this one!
The black version is understated and professional looking, but doesn't have the moving X design that changes depending on the light! I still want the Chinese only Icelandic White version!
7:GPU Turbo, now, this is something I can't verify but I think there may be an issue with the test build I am using. The EMUI screen doesn't mention GPU Turbo and some games that should use it are not getting the same level of performance that the Kirin 710 should. This is going to be the subject of further tests and I'm hoping updates will be coming soon which may change things.
8: The phone subjectively keeps signal just as well as the View 20 and another device I own, so in challenging indoor conditions the phone works well. The phone comes with full ac Wi-Fi with 5Ghz and 2.4ghz wifi support and LTE for the Mobile connection. So far, these work just as well as expected.
Other thoughts: So far I'm very happy with what £250 can get you. The initial build needs a few bug fixes which I have submitted to hopefully get squished. The phone feels great to use, the weight of the phone feels well distributed and as a daily use phone is pretty excellent as a media device, with Netflix (Once it was installed, a bug on the Google Play Store meant that it had to be sideloaded) especially great on such a large screen with no interuptions.
A more detailed review with objective metrics such as AnTuTu, camera tests, gaming tests and feature by feature testing will come in December.
Thank you for reading and I hope people enjoy this, and look at the 9X locally, as it is a phone that should be seen to appreciate fully!
