Notepad
A powerful tool that ticks all the boxes
I'm really impressed with the improvements to the preloaded Notepad on EMUI 9.0. It's so packed with functionality that I couldn't fit it all into one article, so I've narrowed it down to my top 3: Handwriting, formatting and font size for keyboard input, and organization (including tagging)
Handwriting
Intuitive and stylish
The Handwriting feature comes with 7 colors and 5 different pen sizes. It's super easy to use—this example only took me 3 minutes to make. They've tweaked pressure sensitivity for stylus-free drawing, so the smaller phone screen is not difficult to work with your fingers. This means you can get your basic doodle kick in without having to bring out an unwieldy tablet.
While some third-party apps (like EverNote) also offer a similar function, you can't mix text and written content together. EMUI does it differently – you can draw anywhere you like, evenon top of imagesthat you've inserted.
Formatting and font size
Just enough customization hits the sweet spot
I really like the design decisions they made about what kind of text formatting to allow. EMUI can sometimes overdo it when it comes to customization, but this achieves a happy medium.
The formatting functions are comprehensive enough to structure information in a logical flow, while not being so overwhelming that it's impossible to navigate. It'd be nicer to include bolding or italics though.
Organization
Tagging and switching views
When you're editing notes, you can tag them to make them easier to find:
See and edit a list of all your tags here.
You can also switch between a modular view of all your notes, or a list view:
Again, the organization functions are just enough to meet all my needs, without being overwhelming or all that hard to use.
EMUI 9.0 Notepad
Too much functionality for one article
Like I said earlier, not all of my favorite functions made it into this article. I didn't even talk about the awesome To-do list function, Quick notes, Voice notes, watermarking, and more. Maybe I'll cover these in another article, or you can just go and explore them yourselves.
Basically, this incredibly versatile andfreeapp comes with a few tiny issues, but it's unique, it works well, and saves you a third party download.
Give it a try! Does it hit the mark?

This is my favorite function of Notepad – it's incredibly responsive, and really showcases what can be achieved when you match cutting edge hardware with well-designed software. The Handwriting feature comes with 7 colors and 5 different pen sizes.
