HONOR Announces Winners of HONOR Talents Global Design Awards 2022

[Shenzhen, China – December 28^th , 2022] As 2022 draws to a close, global technology brand HONOR today announced the winners of the HONOR Talents Global Design Awards 2022. Themed “Inspire the Future”, the latest edition of the annual contest received a record high of over 7,200 submissions across more than 40 countries and regions. With participants joining from 164 renowned education institutions, HONOR Talents provides a global platform for young artists to shine, while showing to the world the incredible power of blending art with technology.

Celebrating Cultural Vibrance through Art and Technology

To inspire the creative minds of budding artists, the HONOR Talents Global Design Awards 2022 granted a total of 77 awards alongside a prize pool of US$120,000 (RMB 800,000) as well as fast-track employment and internship opportunities at HONOR. Accepting submissions in six categories across two groups, the contest added AR Interactive Artworks and Interactive Art Installations under the Art & Technology group for the first time this year, along with Wallpapers, Foldable Wallpapers, Watches and Open Designs under the Visual Communication Design group.

The highest accolade of the contest, Global First Place, was awarded to Yang Long from China for his work Hours Of HONOR in the Watches category. Inspired by the 12 dual hours and the 12 animal signs in Chinese culture, Yang’s watch face is an exquisite art piece that blends traditional craftsmanship and modern mechanics.

First Place for the Wallpapers category was awarded to the Chinese artist Da Wan Zhi’s A Bright Future in the Year of the Rabbit , which embodies the concept of Yin and Yang with cool and warm tones. Featuring auspicious symbols such as the koi, magpie, lantern, ribbon, coin pattern and gourd to complement the rabbit, the Chinese zodiac sign of 2023, the winning work sends best wishes to the world.

Hoh Sheng Yue from Malaysia won First Place in the Open Designs category with her project In the Heart of Nature. The image of an old tree stub reminds people of the beauty of nature, while promoting the ideal of a sustainable future, where technology is in harmony with the natural planet.

For the Interactive Art Installations category, Ensemble form the Chinese artist Hoho was awarded First Place. Giving a fun, interactive performance of Chinese musical instruments, Ensemble shows the calm and positive attitude of the Chinese in the face of challenges.

The winning artworks across all of this years’ categories demonstrate not only the creative imagination of young designers, but also the emotional connection between people and culture and technology and nature. With the same goal in mind, HONOR launched an HONOR Talents initiative, Gateway to the Future, in September 2022 in a bid to enrich cultural heritage through the power of technology. In collaboration with the AR and VR development company ARLOOPA, HONOR challenged two renowned artists – Yunuen Esparza and Timo Helgert – to creatively reimagine the iconic Wasserschloss building located in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through immersive AR, the innovative experience offered a new way to discover a cultural treasure.

Empowering the Next Generation of Creative Talent

The HONOR Talents Global Design Awards 2022 was a huge success thanks to partnerships with distinguished design institutions including the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the China Academy of Art and the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in China, as well as Multimedia University and Taylor's University in Malaysia. As well as providing academic guidance to participants, the education partners collaborated with HONOR to organize seminars and training camps, jointly fostering the development of young artistic talents.

With the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Shenzhen University and Guizhou Minzu University in China incorporating the contest into their curriculum, the HONOR Talents Global Design Awards supports the academic pursuit of art students. An impressive 51% of the contest participants are students, with their brilliant ideas and creative works winning high praise from the contest judges.

Bringing the Beauty of Art and Technology to Life

HONOR will exhibit the winning works of the HONOR Talents Global Design Awards 2022 across major Chinese cities. On January 2, 2023, HONOR Talents Art Salon will take place in HONOR’s fourth store in Fuzhou, alongside a series of art activities. In collaboration with WWD, a reputable long-established fashion magazine, HONOR will launch WWD FASHION LAB in Shanghai on January 6, 2023, to show visitors the stunning HONOR Talents artworks.
