[Review + Illustration] HONOR X9 5G

HONOR X9 5G is the second phone with 5G connectivity that comes to the global market. Since it is under the X-series, thus you can be assured that this is a budget friendly model. 

What makes this phone so special? Obviously it’s the huge camera bump and it’s color shifting back cover. It goes from silver to a tinge of redness as lights fall on the cover. The matte texture of the back cover makes the phone feel premium and it keeps your fingerprints off the phone. 

Volume control and the power button (fingerprint scanner) are located at the right while the earpiece is located right on top of the phone to compensate for the ultra-narrow bezel. Speaker, USB-C port and the SIM card tray are located at the bottom of the phone. A little disappointment here is that there is no microSD card storage expansion even though the built-in storage is at an average 128GB.

HONOR X9 5G comes with a 6.81’ FullView FHD display with 120Hz Refresh Rate. With its ultra-thin bezel, HONOR X9 5G achieved an extremely high 94% screen to body ratio. It feels as if the screen was extended from one end to the other end.

After using the phone for almost 2 weeks, here’s my personal user experience.

Battery Performance

HONOR X9 5G comes with a huge 4800mAh battery and a 66W HONOR SuperCharge. The battery could last me one whole day without a single charge (normal usage). With its 66W HONOR SuperCharge, the phone is fully charged in less than an hour. It’s always good that you don’t leave the phone charged overnight as it might shorten the battery life. Thus, with the 66W HONOR SuperCharge, I’ll just get it fully charged before I go to bed and it’ll be good to go right in the morning before I go to work. 

Gaming Performance

With the super efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon® 6nm 5G SoC, game loads like a breeze. HONOR’s Turbo RAM extended another 2GB ROM to make sure that multitasking doesn’t brick the phone. I was gaming on Genshin Impact for almost 2 hours and there were no obvious lags at all but you do feel the heat at the back though. For lag free gaming experience, it’s advised that you set the graphic settings to normal instead of high.

Camera

Cameras were good for normal daily usage but not great as there’s only a 48MP (f /1.8) main camera + 2MP Macro camera + 2MP Depth sensing camera). It does perform slightly better with enough lighting. One thing that I noticed is that the bokeh looks very natural and it makes photographs extremely appealing. 

Work

I’m sure a lot of us sometimes need to get work done when we’re on the run. Thus, HONOR X9 5G comes with GMS (finally!!) that helps people like me who depend heavily on Google Workspace to get my job done. With its huge display and 5G connectivity, I can work on my Google sheets, Google docs and Google slides anytime, anywhere!

Stress

If you watched the HONOR X9 launching in Malaysia, a flower vase was dropped on the HONOR X9 and it barely had a scratch. In order to see how strong HONOR X9 5G is, I did some stress tests on my own. I've tried putting it in my back pocket while I sit on it, dropped it from table height and even left it under the air conditioner for hours. HONOR X9 5G shows no defects at all. According to HONOR, HONOR X9 5G can withstand a stress up to 70 kg and I assure you, they are not kidding. 

Conclusion

HONOR X9 5G is one of the most budget friendly phones that comes with 5G, huge battery, super fast charging and most importantly, it is super tough. HONOR are so confident in the durability of the phone that they dare to offer a 1+1  year extended warranty!
